Examples of reports and briefings

For a general audience I have written an essay for the UK Government Office for Science on future cities and universities, looking at trends in cities in the next 50 years. For university leaders I have written briefings and factsheets on the policies and implications of devolution.

I have worked on the influential City Growth Commission’s report on universities in urban areas, UniverCities: The knowledge to power UK metros, and Sir Andrew Witty’s review of universities and growth, Encouraging a British invention revolution. I have also authored evidence for House of Commons inquiries.

Whilst working at the Association of Commonwealth Universities I wrote an evaluation report of the impact of development scholarships in the health sector.

Examples of articles and blogs

In addition to my posts on this site, you can read my posts on the Universities UK blog. I have written a piece for the Government Office for Science blog, and for the National Centre for Universities and Business.

Academic work

In 2013 I presented a paper based on my MSc thesis at the Earth Institute, Columbia University in New York. It looks at how small civil society organisations can adapt big data for international development applications. My undergraduate dissertation was published as an article by the International History Review in 2010. It examines the negotiations leading to the creation of the European Payments Union in 1950 as part of the Marshall Plan.
